Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has come under fire from Ghanaian musician Kwame Yogot for allegedly using his music for political campaigns without his consent.
The vice president, he claims, has adopted his hit song “Bibi be so,” which is played for him at each campaign event he attends.
On Saturday, June 18, 2023, Kwame Yogot urged Bawumia and his campaign staff to stop using his music in a widely circulated video shared by One Ghana TV.
“How is it possible that someone would just pick your music and be using it for campaign without the artist’s knowledge?
“Let’s put aside the cost I incurred to record the music and the struggles, do you know what is going to happen to me because you are using my music to campaign? I don’t support the NDC neither do I support NPP,” he said in Twi.
As the grandson of James Gyakye Quayson, the ex-Member of Parliament for Assin North, who he claimed the NPP has been disgracing, Kwame Yogot further explained that the NPP cannot use his music.
“Joe Quayson is my grandfather…se what you people in the NPP are doing to him. he won the elections hands down but you people took him to court and now has to be going to court always.
“Now you are using his grandson’s music for your campaign…don’t use my music for your campaign. The man that you have been disgracing is my grandfather and you are using my music for campaign. Stop using my music for campaign,” he added.
In related news, John Setor Dumelo, an actor who doubles as an NDC candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, was seen campaigning for the party on Okada in Assin North.
The actor posted a video of himself riding a motorcycle through Assin Kushea while yelling the NDC catchphrase, “3y3 Zu” and “3y3 Za.”
On Tuesday, June 27, there will be a by-election, in which the NDC will be vying to keep the seat.
Party officials have been canvassing the district to support James Gyakye Quayson’s reelection as a member of parliament.
