I Was Coerced By Kiki Benson To Crown Kuami Eugene As ‘King of Highlife’ – Amakye Dede Clears The Air

Amakye Dede, during a live performance at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), has accused Kiki Banson of pressuring him into naming Kuami Eugene as the “King of Future Highlife.”

This admission follows Amakye Dede’s earlier denials that he was forced into the act, which at the time attracted a lot of attention on social media.

Amakye Dede revealed during an interview on Asaase Radio that at first, he even tried to give the crown given to him to someone else because he was unwilling to participate.

The highlife veteran openly identified Kiki Banson, a popular music executive, as the mastermind behind the act, though, in a recent interview with Abeiku Santana.

“I am telling you without hesitation that Kiki was the one who handed me the crown. He forced me to crown Eugene. When he initially gave it to me, I gave it to one of my boys, Robberman, to hold onto it. It was not my intention, and I was coerced into doing it. If you doubt me, you can call Kiki right now and ask him if he wasn’t the one who gave me the crown,” Amakye Dede affirmed.

The show’s host, Abeiku Santana, asked Amakye Dede if she was really referring to Kiki Banson because she seemed a little confused.

Amakye Dede retorted, “Why would he do this to me?” he was disappointed.

The VGMAs’ producers, Charterhouse, have apologized for the incident that took place on their stage four years ago in the wake of this revelation.

Charterhouse’s Head of Public Events and Communication, Robert Klah, made it clear that they had no part in planning the crowning ceremony.
