The 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) organizers, Charterhouse Production Ltd, have refuted Amakye Dede’s recent allegations that he was forced into naming Kuami Eugene as the country’s next king of highlife.

Robert Klah, the head of public events and communication at Charterhouse, claimed on the Asaase Breakfast Show on June 15 that they had no involvement in planning the crowning session in response to Amakye Dede’s revelation.

“We did not orchestrate any crowning session. So I am a bit lost when it comes to the assertion that event organisers are responsible,”

He emphasized that although they give artists and their teams a stage to perform on during the VGMA, the specifics and actions during the ceremony are not directly under their direct control or supervision.

“We work with a team… so, you give them an opportunity, they create what they want to do… the only thing is that you want to ensure that whatever they are going to present is not distasteful, so they get there and perform their act, and you move on.”

On June 14, 2023, Amakye Dede revealed on the Asaase Breakfast Show that he was compelled to enthrone Kwami Eugene as the “King of Highlife,”

“Though I did that, it was not my will to do so. They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene.”

Amakye Dede disclosed that at first he even made an attempt to pass the crown that had been given to him onto a different person while refusing to take part in the act. He eventually had to perform the coronation against his will, though.
