The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general elections of 2024.

The Vice President, according to her, is the only and best candidate who will be approved by the ruling party.

Dr. Bawumia is the only candidate for the NPP flagbearership, according to Hawa Koomson, a member of parliament for Awutu Senya East, who has the vision necessary to fill President Akufo-Addo’sshoesand run the government.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program in Accra, she refuted claims that the NPP had a tradition requiring that the Vice President wait for candidates who were deemed more qualified for the position.

According to Hawa Koomson, the number of NPP MPs who are supporting Bawumia’s candidacy is evidence that he is destined to succeed Nana Akufo-Addo as the country’s next president and calls Bawumia “God-sent.”

“Have you asked yourself why majority members of parliament are supporting Dr. Bawumia? Have you asked yourself this question before?”, she quipped, and explained that it is so because of what they have seen of him as “the only person who can change this country” to add to what President Akufo-Addo has achieved for Ghana.

She claimed that Bawumia has gained experience and that, in addition to demonstrating his maturity through his speeches, Ghanaians find him to be very logical.

As a result of the NPP’s commitment to democracy, according to Hawa Koomson, the race has been made open to all eligible and interested NPP members. However, Dr. Bawumia will ultimately be chosen as the party’s nominee.

She asserted that neither the race for the presidency nor the NPP is a queue for anyone who claims they have been around the longest and should, therefore, be fielded by the party. She said neither of these things apply to people who are not serious about running for office.

She insisted that the party ticket would go to the person who could, with Bawumia’s backing, carry on President Akufo-Addo’s good deeds rather than to someone who would come along and undo them.

There is no way that any other candidate will stand a good chance to win the position, according to Hawa Koomson, who cited her constituency in the Awutu Senya East as an example. All of the executives there, with the exception of one or two, have supported Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.
