Before the general election in 2024, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a message for Ghanaians, according to vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
On Saturday, June 10, Dr. Bawumia spoke at the NPP International Women’s Conference in London. She outlined the accomplishments of the government over the years.
He pointed out that the NPP government, since taking office in 2017, has done incredibly well with many landmark achievements, despite the global factors that have hit several economies around the world in the previous three years. He acknowledged, however, that there is still more to be done.
This comes after Alan Kyerematen, a potential flagbearer and former minister of trade, said that the party had no platform for the 2024 elections.
“We have not had it all rosy and delivered everything that we set out to do from our day of initiation into office. But the setbacks notwithstanding, we have produced a solid track record of achievements,” Dr Bawumia noted, as he highlighted global and domestic factors which have affected the country recently.
For the government’s efforts to be appreciated, according to Dr. Bawumia, it is crucial to remember the state of the nation, the problems the government inherited, and the solutions it has proposed to deal with these problems.
The Vice President listed a number of other issues, such as high unemployment, Dumsor for four years, a nearly bankrupt National Health Insurance system, a nearly bankrupt national ambulance system, a freeze on public sector employment, massive annual increases in utility bills, subpar economic indicators, low agricultural growth, low industry growth, the cancellation of teacher and nursing training allowances, as well as the enormous financial burden of paying $1 billion dolla.
The NPP government has implemented programs, projects, and policies in every sector to address these challenges in employment, education, health, the agricultural and industrial sectors, security, energy, and digitalization after presenting a thorough list of the numerous challenges it has inherited.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, Dr. Bawumia demonstrated how the government significantly improved the economy by getting every economic indicator much better than it inherited.
