The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu has concerned that the SIM card deactivation process is causing relationships and martial problems especially in the rural areas.
According to him, the deactivation SIM card exercises carried by the NCA nationwide which has seen over 8million SIMs blocked have caused some citizens to lose their girlfriends.
He added that since some men can’t reach out to their girlfriends and wives because their SIM cards may be blocked risk losing their marriages.
Addressing the Speaker in Parliament, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu called on the Minster for Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu to take a critical look at the social problem the SIM card deactivation may cause in the villages.

Relatively, Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has revealed that some category of people have been excluded from the SIM card deactivation process.
Addressing the Parliament House on June 9, 2023, the Communications Minister noted that these category of people without the Ghana card noticed the National Communication Agency (NCA) with a prove of application for the Ghana card.
She added that subscribers out the country and subscribers who faced some genuine challenges during the SIM card registration process were also exempted from the deactivation.
According to the Communications Minister, staff of diplomatic all, Ghana Armed Forces abroad and refuses in Ghana have been excluded from get their SIM cards blocked.
Meanwhile, using the Ghana Card, more than 28 million mobile SIM cards have been successfully registered, according to the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
In a statement to Parliament on June 8, 2023, she stated that the start of the registration process on October 1, 2021, would go a long way toward assisting in the development and construction of a SIM database with integrity.
She also stated that the re-registration would help in reducing fraudulent activities and securing SIM card-based transactions.
