Pillow fights and tug-of-war have been added to the list of sports that Ghanaian students in basic and secondary schools must participate in.
The Ghana Education Service’s (GES) acting deputy director-general, Stephen Kwaku Owusu, reaffirmed this.
In a previous letter to the GES, the Ghana Tug of War and Pillow Fight Federation requested official approval for the sports at the pre-tertiary level.

Mr. Owusu gave them instructions in a letter addressed to the Metro, Municipal and District Directors and Heads of Second Cycle Institutions to work with the sports federations to implement the two sports in schools.
“Accordingly, Management is by this letter requesting Regional Directors to officially inform Metro, Municipal and District Directors and Heads of Second Cycle Institutions that approval has been granted for the introduction of Tug of War and Pillow Fight in our schools.
“It is the expectation of Management that the Federation will strictly adhere to the directives to ensure smooth and continuous running of the sports in our schools,” the letter added.
The Ghana Tug of War and Pillow Fight Federations, meanwhile, are hopeful that the most recent approval will encourage the development of future stars in the aforementioned sports.
