John Ntim Fordjour, the deputy minister of education, has harshly criticized Excellence Publications for releasing a book with derogatory information about Christianity.

The Assin South MP, Mr. Fordjour, referred to the material in the textbook, “History of Ghana for Basic Schools,” as offensive and misguided in a tweet on Thursday.

He denounced the book’s disgusting content and criticized its availability on the market, where unaware students might come across false information.

“I condemn entirely the rather obnoxious content found in a textbook published by ‘Excellence Publications’ and smuggled into the market for unsuspecting learners. The content is appalling and misconceived,” parts of his tweet read.

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), which was swift in recalling the books from stores, also received praise from the deputy minister.

He also emphasized the significance of religion in the nation and urged authors to approach the subject with caution.

“Ghana is most peaceful for a reason, and the important place of religion cannot be undermined,” he said.

In a related news, the “History of Ghana for Basic Schools – Learners’ Book Four” textbook, published by Excellence Publications, has been called for immediate recall by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).

The published book’s content, according to NaCCA, does not accurately reflect the curriculum that has been approved.

Parts of the textbook in use falsely claim that Christianity is to blame for poverty and that religion has sparked violent conflicts in Ghana and across the globe.

The textbook asserts that people who practice religion are less motivated to find workable solutions to the problems with their current living arrangements.

NaCCA has responded by writing to Excellence Publications and requesting that they immediately remove all stock of the textbook from sale.

“The attention of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has been drawn to a publication making rounds in the media about the content of a textbook “History of Ghana for Basic Schools-Learners’ Book Four” published by Excellence Publications.
