Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the NPP’s regional chairman for Ashanti, has claimed that independent candidate Kwaku Duah slapped a voter during the ongoing Kumawu by-election.

He claimed that Mr. Duah allegedly slapped the person out of frustration while speaking on Adom TV.

“Do you know that the independent candidate has slapped someone? He is frustrated. He slapped someone at an Anglican school near the chief’s palace. He is frustrated because what happens during a general election is different from a bye-election. It’s a different game.

“The independent candidate is frustrated because he has lost all his followers,” he said.

The man who goes by the moniker Chairman Wontumi claimed that had he not chosen to turn the case over to the police, he would have given his men orders to deal with Mr. Duah.

“If I was in my old ways, I would have ordered my boys to deal with him, but I have decided to hand him over to the police. Or else I would have dealt with him severely. He has lost the election, I can confirm,” he added.

He stated that the NPP has already won the election and there is no contest.

Out of the anticipated 34,000 voters, he said that according to his data, about 17,500 people have already cast their ballots.

By the end of the day, Mr. Boasiako added, there will likely be between 20,000 and 22,000 voters, or more than 50% of eligible voters.

In the ongoing Kumawu bye-election, Kwaku Duah is the name of two independent candidates.

The NPP and the late Member of Parliament (MP), Philip Basaoh, were both shocked by an old affiliate of the NPP, Kwaku Duah, who is listed as the third choice on the ballot.

In a well-known NPP stronghold, he received more than 11,000 votes compared to the late MP’s over 14,000 votes.

In comparison to Kwasi Amankwaa of the NDC, Mr. Duah is thought to be a stronger opponent for NPP candidate Ernest Yaw Anim.

The NPP regional chairman’s allegation has not yet received a response from Mr. Duah.
