Today will see the selection of a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The competition is scheduled to begin at 7:00 am and end at 4:00 pm.
On Saturday, there will be an election with over 366,000 delegates, and 739 candidates are running for office.
In the elections on Saturday, 47 parliamentary candidates are anticipated to face no opposition.
Elections are currently being postponed in the Manhyia South constituency, but they are still expected to take place in 274 other constituencies across the nation.
After Dr. Duffuor withdrew from the race, former president John Dramani Mahama will compete against Kojo Bonsu, the former mayor of Kumasi.
The former governor of the Bank of Ghana said in a press conference on Friday that his decision was based on his complaints about the procedures surrounding the party’s upcoming primaries, particularly the voters register.
Prior to Saturday’s primary elections, the former finance minister expressed concern about a few inconsistencies in the party’s voter list.
As a result, he emphasized that he will no longer run for the NDC’s flagbearer position, adding that he will continue to communicate with the party’s grassroots.
Earlier on, Dr. Duffuor pulled out his lawsuit seeking an injunction against the NDC’s upcoming weekend primary elections.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor will perish, according to Allotey Jacobs, the former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He declared that the former finance minister had left the party.
According to Allotey Jacobs, Dr. Duffuor has effectively given those in the NDC leadership who he refers to as “dark horses” the upper hand.
“The dark horses in the NDC are at play…I would say this is the third trap. This trap is for Dr. Kwabena Duffour.”
Allotey claims Dr. Duffour is “finished in the NDC…Kwabena Duffour is finished so far as the NDC is concerned. This is a game where there are certain forces there that I call them the ‘dark horses’. All they wanted was for Dr. Duffour to go to court and he has also gone to court”.
According to the former NDC Central Regional Chairman, the goal of the plot’s organizers was to portray Dr. Duffour as the opposition party.
