Each National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegate will receive GH 40 from the John Dramani Mahama campaign to help them get to the polling places for Saturday’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
“There must be no discrimination in the disbursement of the GH¢40 per delegate T&T money,” campaign manager for John Dramani Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi, is cited as saying.
According to a statement released by John Dramani Mahama’s office on May 12, the sum won’t be a substitute for what the party will contribute.
“The Campaign believes supporting the delegates to travel to the centers will ensure a high voter turnout and every voter will be empowered to vote and return home without financial impediment in these difficult economic times,” in a statement, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Mr. Mahama’s spokeswoman, signed it
On Saturday, May 13, candidates for the NDC’s 2024 elections will be chosen through primaries held across the nation.
When Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, one of the candidates for flagbearer, filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court to enjoin the election, the process was almost put on hold.
On Friday, May 12, he retracted his lawsuit and subsequently his candidacy.
As a result, Kojo Bonsu, his appointee, and former president Mahama will compete for the single ticket of who will represent the NDC in 2024.
Relatively, NDC has declared that it is prepared to hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, as scheduled, with or without the assistance of the electoral management body.
The EC initially declined to oversee the election due to an injunction request made by Dr. Kwabena Duffour, one of the candidates for flagbearer, but the lawsuit was later withdrawn.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC, expressed his displeasure with the EC’s decision to charge to supervise internal political party elections on Friday. He asserted that the elections will still take place even if the EC chooses not to get involved.
