Blacko has consistently highlighted his roots in his success narrative.
On Saturday, May 13, 2023, the rapidly rising young rapper from Konongo in the Ashanti Region traveled in history to his hometown to celebrate being named the VGMA “Artiste of the Year.”
The entire township came out onto the streets to welcome their superstar, the man who has been making waves in Ghana and the rest of the world through his music, on the way back home.
Bloggers and the rapper flaunted the regal treatment on social media. Black Sherif demonstrated his fans’ love for him in an Instagram live video.
Both young and old were seen singing along to his well-known songs and applauding him.

Prior to winning, Blacko had promised to celebrate with his friends, family, and supporters if he won the overall “Artiste of the Year” award at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), which were held last Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Grand Arena.
The song “Konongo Zongo,” from the rapper’s 2022 album “The Vivian I Never Was,” contained a special dedication to his roots.
Blacko’s team, A-List management, has given him two brand-new cars in the meantime.
In contrast, after Piesie Esther expressed a desire to collaborate with him on a gospel project, Blacko says he is prepared to do so.
The musician claimed that he is already a member of the gospel fraternity and that the majority of his songs are gospel songs in an interview with Andy Dosty.
“I will be there because I do gospel songs already. ‘Oil in my head’ is a gospel song same as ‘Soja’. Most of the songs I do is gospel, street gospel. So I am in the gospel fraternity but street department” he said in response to Piesie’s request.
Piesie Esther expressed her admiration for Black Sherif’s distinctive voice and her wish that he would think about joining the gospel music scene in an interview with Joy FM.
