Following the withdrawal of former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential race, Ernest Owusu Bempah, the NPP’s deputy director of communication, has criticized the Mahama camp.
Mr. Owusu Bempah thinks Dr. Duffuor’s camp, which he claims was looking for honesty and social justice, was frustrated by his efforts.
“Mahama and his cult should bow down their heads in shame. They gang up against Duffour which is pure political desperation and undemocratic Conduct. Duffour saw the evil machinations of the Mahama group to rig the election for Mahama at all costs hence his withdrawal from the race
“The decision of the NDC national executive to take the case out of court defeats their party principles of probity accountability and social justice they tout themselves for Duffour was seeking for probity and social justice but he was denied. It shows NDC has become Mahama cult, personal parochial individual agenda,” he said in a short statement reacting to Dr Duffuor’s withdrawal.
Dr. Duffuor defended his decision to withdraw from the presidential race by saying that the party wasn’t prepared to hold an impartial election.
He claimed that participating in such an election would be the same as purposefully drinking from a calabash that was poisoned.
In a related news, each NDC delegate will receive GH 40 from the Mahama campaign to help them get to the polling places for Saturday’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
“There must be no discrimination in the disbursement of the GH¢40 per delegate T&T money,” campaign manager for Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi, is cited as saying.
According to a statement released by Mahama’s office on May 12, the sum won’t be a substitute for what the party will contribute.
“The Campaign believes supporting the delegates to travel to the centers will ensure a high voter turnout and every voter will be empowered to vote and return home without financial impediment in these difficult economic times,” in a statement, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Mr. Mahama’s spokeswoman, signed it.
