Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a former deputy minister of information, is in the spotlight after three of his supporters were detained at Abura Asebu Kwamankese in the Central Region.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) members who are Kwakye Ofosu’s supporters in his bid to represent the opposition party in the constituency went on the rampage last Friday, May 3, disrupting the campaign of Prof. Nana Ama Brown Klutse, who is his main rival in the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries.
When Kwakye Ofosu, the NDC candidate who doubles as a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, was on a campaign mission in Moree, they destroyed her campaign vehicle.
The supporters of threw stones at the car and other objects, breaking the windscreen and other pieces.
According to information gathered, three of the irate supporters of were detained by the police to help with their inquiries.
Later, bail was granted for them.
When there was false information that the National Organiser, Joseph Yamin, was in the constituency to campaign for the lecturer, the supporters misbehaved and caused the illegality.
They claimed Mr. Yamin went there to support Prof. Klutse, a party candidate for Abura Asebu Kwamankese in the 2020 parliamentary election who lost to Kwakye Ofosu in the most recent NDC parliamentary primary.
It’s interesting to note that Mr. Yamin was far from Moree when the incident took place.
He wasn’t even in the Central Region at the time, according to the national organizer of the NDC, who also claimed that the last time he was there was on April 4, 2023, for parliamentary vetting.
He emphasized that he always notifies regional executives of his presence prior to any visit and expressed shock at the reports.
“As I am speaking with you, I am in Sunyani and on an official assignment and so how was I attacked in Moree when I have never been to that region for some weeks now? Myself, when I heard the reports, I was surprised and wondered who came up with such baseless reports to tarnish my image,” he told Accra-based Adom FM after the incident occurred.
The attack and his alleged involvement in the confusion, which he denied, were topics of calls from Central Region executives, which he also disclosed.
“Around 11 pm, I received calls from an executive in the constituency saying they have been attacked and that they were mentioning my name of being part and being the cause which I still don’t understand. For the past four months, I have never driven a pick-up.
“Anytime I’m embarking on a journey in a region, I deal with the regional executives and inform them about my presence and so why will people name me as part of the confusion when I am not even in that region?” he questioned.
