Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has reportedly halted his campaigning as a result of his injunction lawsuit he filed against the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, according to his spokesperson, Fritz Baffour.

Contrary to some people’s perceptions, he clarified, “the intention was not to interfere or to create a situation for us to campaign.

“Well as a result of the court action that we’ve taken, we have suspended the actual campaigning till we get a nod from the court or after the court proceedings,” he revealed.

The former MP for Ablekuma South expressed his optimism that the issue would be resolved quickly by all parties involved.

“I’m sure within the next few days between the court, EC, the party and ourselves we should resolve the issue,” he said on Accra-based TV3.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a candidate for the presidential nomination, filed a lawsuit against the party on Tuesday after discovering what he claims are discrepancies in the party’s voter list that will be used for the election.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor claimed in a writ submitted to an Accra High Court that the party had broken party rules by failing to deliver the necessary photo album register five weeks prior to the elections.

He claimed that rather than in March when they had requested one, a partial photo album register was given to his team on May 4, just days before the elections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries are set for Saturday, May 13, but the Electoral Commission (EC) says it won’t oversee them until all legal matters connected to them are resolved.

The EC claims that holding the primary would be disrespectful to the legal system because it would be an act of court contempt.

Relatively, the NDC, which is in opposition, has been urged by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to settle all of its differences before their May 13 presidential primary elections.

According to Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the NPP, the concerns raised by one of the flagbearer aspirants, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor should be addressed.

He warned that if the issues weren’t resolved, there might be violence during the primaries.
