Despite requests from Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, one of the flagbearer candidates, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will not postpone its primaries on Saturday, according to Mustapha Gbande, the party’s deputy general secretary.

The credibility of the primaries on May 13 is not in doubt, according to Mr. Gbande, despite what the former Finance Minister’s campaign team would have you believe.

Concerns about the purportedly inaccurate and incomplete delegates register that is anticipated to be used for the primaries were expressed in a letter from Kwabena Duffuor’s team to the NDC general secretary.

However, Mr. Gbande claimed that the “claims in the letter are untrue” and that reports that the “party hasn’t provided him with a response is incorrect and untrue” in an interview with Eyewitness News on Citi FM.

He did, however, add that in order to maintain the fairness and legitimacy of the primaries, the party leadership is committed to addressing any issues brought up by any candidate in the race or party member.

“Leadership is committed to resolving every issue raised so that we can have a credible election. The credibility of these elections is unquestionable, and the processes are clean enough and the processes are very transparent enough and we are committed to conducting a credible election that is not questionable.”

Mr. Gbande added that the party is abiding by each and every provision of its constitution to ensure free and fair primaries for both the presidency and the senate.

“We have guidelines to adhere to, and we are operating on those guidelines. The process is credible and assuring enough and all the aspirants are aware of this.”

In a related news, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is counting on farmers to win the party’s presidential primaries.

The majority of NPP delegates who are farmers, according to Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, benefited from the policies and programs he started while serving as the Minister of Food and Agriculture.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto claimed in an interview with journalists in Accra that his track record makes him the obvious favorite.
