Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah chastised Ghanaians for holding the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration responsible for the country’s current economic woes.

The Ashanti Regional Minister argues that because every nation in the world is struggling, the government cannot be held accountable.

In an effort to quell criticisms that make him angry, he claimed that his party and the government are more like victims of a global economic crisis and are therefore not to blame for the state of the economy.

“NPP, we have done well, there is hardship but we have managed it well. Even the richest countries don’t they also suffer? Why are we creating the impression that the NPP has performed badly? It tends to make me angry when I hear that,” he stated in an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM.

The minister emphasized that despite criticism, the NPP has performed admirably and deserves praise.

He continued by saying that people who are aware of world events respect his viewpoint and that it is therefore important for the NPP to educate the rest of Ghanaians about how events affect the global economy and the various nations.

Recently, Mr. Osei-Mensah made headlines for berating school catering companies in the Ashanti Region for protesting.

In an interview with Onua FM, Mr. Mensah claimed that by failing to obtain a police permit for the demonstration, the caterers had violated the law.

“You cannot demonstrate without informing the police. What they did was illegal, they didn’t even inform the police.

“You don’t just wake up like that and then you rise with noise to the Regional Coordinating Council. Is that what we do?

“Do you use illegality to solve your problems? Is that what you are saying… I don’t allow illegality in the system, no matter who you are,” he said in twi.

In a widely shared video, the local minister was seen yelling at the caterers after he had had enough of their gripes about the payment they received for the meals they serve Junior High School students.
