According to Ghanaian media personality George Nii Armah Quaye, some members of the gospel community are allegedly doing everything in their power to influence the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) board and academy in order to win.

George claims that while musicians in other genres are working hard to win over their fans and secure votes, their gospel colleagues are proactively attempting to sway the board.

In a facebook post on May 2, 2023, he wrote “Gospel people” going round DESPERATELY doing all they can to “INFLUENCE ” VGMA Academy and Board Members.

According to him, “Worldly” acts are focusing on their fans as should be done! When we talk p3, then Gospel people bore! Smh”.

The event’s organizers stated in a separate post that the former Head of Communications and Public Relations at Charterhouse; “Encourage your fans to vote! Lobby them! Push them! Beg! Implore them! Buy them credits! Get them data! Sing for them if you have to! Go from house to house if you must! Just leave the Board and Academy alone to do their work!!!”

In order to increase their chances of winning at the 24th edition of the VGMA, nominees are actively seeking votes from the Academy and Board members with only a few days until the main awards.

The VGMA Academy has 30% of the vote, while the Board has 40%, according to the voting percentage pattern. While the general public only has 30%.

On social media, his post has caused some people to wonder which gospel musician (s) is/are performing the aforementioned act.

In a related news, Esther Piesie, the most well-known gospel artist, is hopeful that she will win this year’s VGMA despite competing against Sarkodie, Camidoh, Black Sherrif, Stonebwoy, King Promise, and KiDi.

In an appearance on UTV’s Showbiz, Piesie Esther expressed her conviction that her long-term efforts merited the night’s top prize, the Artiste of the Year award.

The “Waye me yie” singer says she will be grateful even if she doesn’t win any awards that day because she knows that her faith will keep her going through the night as the winner.
