The secretary-general of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, has received praise from North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for pressuring President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to convert the National Cathedral project into a national hospital.
The TUC Boss’ remarks, according to Mr. Ablakwa, who has been accusing those connected with the project of corruption, encouraged him.
The President was criticized by Dr. Yaw Baah for working on unimportant projects while the country is experiencing severe economic hardships.
He first insisted that Ghanaians could change the situation their country is in on their own, and then he went on to suggest, among other things, that the size of government might be reduced to save money.

“We believe strongly that government can lead us out of this crisis, and the government can do so by cutting expenditure on non-essentials including the need to stop spending our hard-earned revenue on a National Cathedral,” At the May Day Celebrations in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region, on Monday, May 1, Dr. Yaw Baah spoke on behalf of the labor movement.
“The president has always said he wants to create another Notre Dame in Ghana so we can attract a lot of visitors but we disagree,” he lashed out.
“In fact, comrades, it will be better to convert the project into a national hospital.”
Mr. Ablakwa made the following statement in response to this: “Before proceeding to provide details on the latest ‘National’ Cathedral exposé, kindly permit me to salute Comrade Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, General Secretary of the TUC for his remarkably courageous, frank and patriotic remarks on President Akufo-Addo’s scandalous Cathedral project in the presence of the President at yesterday’s Labour Day commemoration. Comrade, you have inspired millions!”
“President Akufo-Addo’s “National” Cathedral project remains the most sleazy, reckless, sacrilegious and scandalous mission by sheer magnitude and audacity in the entire history of Ghana.”
