While serving as the Chairman of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah did not make any attempts to harm Professor Frimpong-Boateng, according to Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor.

According to a 37-page report written by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi met secretly with media representatives in an effort to discredit them.

Oppong-Nkrumah called the accusations wholly untrue and said that even though he was deeply hurt by them, he forgave Prof. Frimpong-Boateng.

Jinapor defended Oppong-Nkrumah against claims that he tried to sabotage Professor Frimpong-Boateng in an interview with Citi FM from Accra and referred to him as a fine and honorable gentleman.

He said “I know the Information Minister to be a gentleman of honour, I will never in my wildest of imagination come to the suspicion that the Information Minister will engage in such an act.

“He is a fine and decent gentleman who does his business with a lot of integrity and candour.”

Oppong-Nkrumah, however, has stated that he is “utterly disappointed” in Professor Frimpong-Boateng for accusing him in a critical study on galamsey.

Relatively,Chairman Wontumi, has urged well-meaning Ghanaians to disregard the report on illegal mining written by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

The former environment, science, and technology minister is playing politics, he claimed, and the report is full of fabrications.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bosiako, also referred to the former minister as a hungry man.

According to the politician, hunger is actually the driving force behind the report that accused some NPP members and the current administration of participating in illegal small-scale mining activities.

A report by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng that was delivered to the president in March 2021 via his chief of staff was just recently made public.

The challenges the former Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) faced are cited in Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’sreport,which also names individuals he believes contributed to the frustration of his work in battling galamsey.
