Chairman Wontumi, also known as Bernard Antwi Bosiako, has urged well-meaning Ghanaians to disregard the report on illegal mining written by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

The former environment, science, and technology minister is playing politics, he claimed, and the report is full of fabrications.

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bosiako, also referred to the former minister as a hungry man.

According to the politician, hunger is actually the driving force behind the report that accused some NPP members and the current administration of participating in illegal small-scale mining activities.

“You can see that because Frimpong-Boateng did not get an appointment he has collaborated with Tony Aubyn who is a former minerals commission boss to bring out the said report. I see it as palpable lies which Ghanaians should not buy into. It’s all lies because you had a responsibility as minister of environment and chairman of the commission [Inter Ministerial Commission on Small Scale Mining]…

“This is politics that they are engaging in. I believe Frimpong-Boateng is hungry which is why he is doing what he is doing that. He is very hungry; he is hungry and angry so Ghanaians should not buy this,” Wontumi stated on Neat FM during an interview.

A report by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng that was delivered to the president in March 2021 via his chief of staff was just recently made public.

The challenges the former Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) faced are cited in Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’sreport,which also names individuals he believes contributed to the frustration of his work in battling galamsey.

Relatively, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has descended on President Nana Akufo-Addo and his administration in their failure to fight illegal mining in Ghana after Frimpong-Boateng’s ‘bombshell’ galamsey report.

Addressing the media as the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi wondered how President Nana Addo’s garden in Kyebi was turned into a galamsey site by his own NPP constituent leader without his knowledge as revealed by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng in his galamsey report.
