The evacuation of 82 Ghanaian nationals from the Republic of Sudan was successfully organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

According to a statement made on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, Ghanaians who were living in the unstable nation had been evacuated to safety in Gedaref, Sudan, and were waiting to be taken tomorrow to the Ethiopian border town of Metema for further repatriation.

It claimed that the Ministry had successfully evacuated two groups of 50 and 27 Ghanaian nationals to safety in Gedaref, Sudan, in cooperation with its missions in Cairo, Addis Abeba, the Honorary Consul in Khartoum, and student leaders.

They would be transported on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, to the Ethiopian border town of Metema, where they would be met by representatives of the Ghanaian Embassy, given entry visas for Ethiopia, and then flown back to their country of origin.

They consist of 34 men and 43 women.

Three Ghanaian football players and two other people employed by an Australian mining company were also being evacuated through Wadi Halfa, an Egyptian border crossing north of Sudan, according to the statement.

According to the statement, this brings the total number of Ghanaian nationals who have been evacuated to safety to 82.

The Ministry takes this chance to urge the general public, in particular Ghanaians stuck in Sudan, to take note of the contact information for the Honorary Consul who is ready to help them get evacuated to safety.

Additionally, it advised them to get in touch with Osama Ataaelmanna at +249-92920-0000 for additional support.

It promised that new developments would be made public in due course.
