Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader in parliament, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his administration for their chaotic battle on Galamsey.
He claimed that the government’s promise to combat illegal mining was a lie.
Speaking about the report on illegal mining that was leaked, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, a former minister of science, environment, and technology, claimed that the government was complicit in the galamsey war.
Dr. Forson claimed in a Facebook post that Prof. Frimpong’s revelation is compelling evidence that the galamsey fight was nothing more than a staged event. He calls it outright as being fraudulent.
“Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report to the President on failed work of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, which was set up by President Akufo-Addo to fight the illegal mining menace, confirms that the whole fight was a fraudulent one”, he wrote.

A number of senior members of the Akufo-Addo administration were named in the report written by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister of the environment, and submitted to the chief of staff in March 2021. They were accused of engaging in galamsey or interfering with the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining’s work.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, the government’s current course of action is a covert support for its corrupt appointees.
“It was shrouded in a well-calculated ruse to enable key government officials and functionaries at the Presidency to dabble in the very illicit business of galamsey.”
The Minority Leader is promoting a thorough investigation into the allegations in the meantime.
“The revealing issues and several others in the damning report call for a national probe”, he added.
