Former President John Dramani Mahama chastised NPP members for holding him responsible for Ghana’s current economic problems.
After seven years in charge, he claimed it is absurd that party and government members continue to hold him responsible.
As part of his Greater Accra regional tour, Mr. Mahama addressed supporters at the Ayawaso Central and Ayawaso West Wougon constituencies. He criticized the NPP’s attempt to perpetually blame the NDC for Ghana’s economic woes as absurd.
“This NPP government likes shifting blame to everything except themselves. Anything that goes bad is either COVID-19 or Russia-Ukraine war, or they say we make too much noise and money doesn’t like noise ‘sika mp3 dede’, after seven years in office. The other day I was reading somewhere and somebody said the economy is bad because of Mahama. After 7 years, Mahama is still the name on your tongue,” Mr. Mahama laughed.
Despite being in power since 2017, Mr. Mahama asserts that the government has refused to take responsibility for Ghana’s economic difficulties.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects are two factors that the NPP government has repeatedly blamed for the current economic crisis.
Still in politics, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has the support of Dr. Mustapha Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the general elections of 2024.
He claimed there was no question the Vice President would be chosen as the party’s flagbearer.
Dr. Mustapha Hamid claimed in a report by MyNewGh that all the other candidates are aware that the Vice President has been selected.
“Well, I back Dr Bawumia. He’s going to win the NPP primaries. There is absolutely no doubt about it. Oh yeah! It’s done. I am sure the others [ aspirants to the flagbearer position] know. But it’s a competition so it’s okay for them to show up,” he said confidently.
