According to the balance of play, a draw was probably fair, but club legend Schmeichel demonstrated after the game that the team could have easily won if they had taken the initiative during play.
Lisandro Martinez picked up an injured in the latter part of the game, and Sevilla players noticed the Red Devils would played 10-men in the last minutes of the match quickly carried the defender off the pitch.
The kind gesture by his teammates from Argentina Acuna and Montiel have been loudly praised by many but Peter Schmeichel believes that the act was not out of fair play but “so they could get going.”
According to him, Man United players should have stopped them from helping Martinez to go off the pitch.
He slammed Maguire for not acting as a good leader of the team to manage the situation.
“It looks like Sevilla players are nice carrying him off the pitch. No, they wanted him out so they could get going. United players should have stopped that, that’s lack of leadership on the pitch. harry Maguire should have managed that situation,” he said.
According to Peter Schmeichel, Manchester United’s players ought to be “embarrassed” by their Europa League defeat to Sevilla.
Speaking to BBC after the game, he said, “It’s a fair enough result, the way that it developed in the second half. “The players of Manchester United have missed a very good opportunity here.
“A few players today need to have a look at themselves and think about whether they are contributing to the team enough.
“There are a few players who should be embarrassed with their performances.”

Going into the second leg next week Thursday, the game is now open and whoever wins goes into the semi-finals of the competition.
Man United would have themselves to blame if Sevilla knocks them out after blowing away 2goal lead, knowing very well that likes of Varane (injury), Bruno Fernandes (suspension) and Martinez (injury) will miss the game.
However, head coach, Erik ten Hag said there is a possibility that Marcus Rashford could be fit to face the Europa League masters in the second leg in Spain.
