In Kumasi, the Ashanti Region, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) seized some aphrodisiacs and unregistered herbal remedies worth GH700,000.
The FDA seized illegal pharmaceuticals, including body enhancing products, from a retail market as part of a market surveillance exercise in the Ashanti Region.
Numerous aphrodisiacs, unregistered herbal remedies, conventional painkillers, and cosmetics were among the items.
Because they had not been registered with the Authority, the drugs that had been imported from China were seized.
Some of the products that were seized had engravings in strange languages, while others were blatantly American-made.
The FDA’s Ashanti Regional Head, John Laryea Oddai Tettey, stated that the Authority would continue to send officers to the markets on a daily basis to monitor activities in order to ensure that the products sold to consumers were safe. He also noted that the seized goods were a mixture of locally produced and imported foods.
He said “These products will never be approved by the FDA. How these products get into our market remains unknown. But we want to assure that when these smugglers beat entry points we will always fish them out when they come on the market.”
Additionally, he exhorted the general public to verify the authenticity and expiration dates of products before buying them.
