Private Imoro Sherrif, a 21-year-old soldier, was killed in Ashaiman, and one of the suspects arrested in connection with the crime has been given a GH150,000.00 bail with three sureties, two of which must be justified.

On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, four defendants who have been charged with receiving money dishonestly applied for bail at the Ashaiman Circuit Court through their attorneys. The suspect is Ibrahim Abdul Rakib.

However, only Rakib was granted bail due to his health.

The defense attorney for three of the six defendants, including Rakib, Abdul Fatawu Alhassan, informed the court that his client was battling a stomach ulcer and had been suffering in the police cells.

He asked the judge to grant his client bail because, if his condition wasn’t treated, it might get worse over time.

Yussif Mohammed, the fifth suspect, was represented by attorney Ishahadu Mohammed; he was charged with dishonestly receiving an item as well. Bail was denied for Yussif Mohammed.

Superintendent Sylvester Asare, the prosecuting attorney, opposed the bail requests and argued that Ibrahim Abdul Rakib and the other suspects had been held in police custody at the Police Headquarters, which was close to the Police Hospital, and had never disclosed any health issues to the investigators. Asare also argued against the bail applications.

He requested that the court deny bail and keep the suspects in custody instead.

However, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib was granted bail by Judge Simon Gaga after hearing from the prosecutor and legal counsel. The court had determined that it was necessary to do so for medical reasons.

The six suspects in the murder of soldier Imoro Sherrif, 21, were remanded on March 13, 2023 by the Ashaiman District Court.

According to the prosecution, two of the defendants robbed the soldier and one of them stabbed him in the arm as they were doing it.

According to reports, the other four purchased a mobile phone that had been stolen from the soldier who had died.

Abdul Fatawu Alhassan, the defense attorney for the four accused individuals, who is alleged to have purchased the stolen phone, asked the court to grant the four accused individuals bail because they were not involved in the robbery or the alleged killing.

The suspects are Yussif Mohammed, Abubakar Sadick, Safianu Musah alias Dayorgu, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Samuel Tetteh, and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim.
