Bryan Acheampong of MP for Abetifi has come under fire from the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), over his statement that the current government will not cede power to them in the 2024 elections.

Bryan Acheampong vowed that the NPP would employ any means necessary to maintain power following the general election of 2024.

Speaking to party faithfuls at Mpraeso on Saturday, the former Minister of State with Responsibility for National Security vowed that the party would never cede power to the NDC.

His remarks drew criticism and stirred up debate, prompting the NDC to release a press statement to criticize the Abetifi lawmaker’s remarks.

Acheampong’s statement was described by the opposition party as utterly ‘reckless’ and ‘treasonable’ as they demand his immediate arrest.

“At an NPP delegates conference in Kumasi 2021, President Akufo-Addo expressed his determination to “hand over to an NPP Government in 2025.” This eerily reminds everyone of the Nana Addo led desperate attempts to steal the 2008 elections in the strongroom of the electoral commission and other attempts by his desperate party to put dead bodies in water bodies in the Volta region all with the view of subverting the will of the people in that critical election”

At a similar NPP conference in Accra in 2022, Director of operations at the Presidency, Lord Commey, speaking on behalf of the President stated the grand plan of the party, saying, “the power I have I will not hand over or tomorrow.”

These voices led by President Akuffo Addo himself, all but reveal the evil agenda by NPP to hold on to power by hook or crook, even if the people of Ghana vote otherwise in the 2024 general elections,” part of the statement signed the General Secretary of NDC read.

Meanwhile, Hon. James Agalga, the defense committee’s ranking member has slammed Bryan Acheampong of Abetifi for his statement that the current government will not hand over power to the NDC in the 2024 elections.

Bryan Acheampong was described by the honorable in a letter as “a danger to Ghana’s democracy.”

Bryan’s statement, in his opinion, is a call for ferocity to sway the upcoming 2024 elections and maintain power.
