Frank Lampard, a club legend, has been named Chelsea’s interim manager through the end of the current campaign.

In charge of Saturday’s game at Wolves will be Lampard, who was present at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to watch Chelsea’s scoreless draw with Liverpool just 48 hours after Graham Potter was fired.

Nothing regarding Frank Lampard staying past the summer has been discussed, and the search for and appointment of a permanent head coach is still ongoing.

Frank Lampard returns as Caretaker Manager until the end of the season. 🤝

The 44-year-old, who holds the record for most goals scored by Chelsea, lost his position as head coach at Stamford Bridge in January 2021 after serving in the position for 18 months. After that, he became manager of Everton, where he served for less than a year before being fired in January.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, co-owners of Chelsea, stated on the club’s official website: “We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club.

“As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season.

“We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line.

‘We have an important game against Wolves on Saturday and then we will turn our attention to our Champions League quarter-final in Madrid next week.

“We are all going to give Frank our full backing as we aim to get the best possible outcome from all our remaining games.”

Chelsea Considering permanent job for Enrique or Nagelsmann

After meeting with former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique in London to discuss their open permanent managerial position, Chelsea made a caretaker move for Lampard.

The 52-year-old, who lost his job as Spain’s manager after the World Cup, won the treble at Barcelona in 2014–15, taking home LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League. He is currently jobless.

The two leading candidates for the permanent position are the Spaniard and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Talks between Nagelsmann’s representatives and Chelsea are reportedly ongoing and productive, according to Sky in Germany.

The 35-year-old, who was recently fired by Bayern Munich, wants to manage in the Premier League and sees it as his natural next destination. Despite Chelsea and Tottenham’s keen interest in him, he will not make a decision about his future right away.
