John Mahama, a candidate for president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged party members to disregard the list of MPs who supported six new ministers appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mahama used the proverb “You don’t throw the bathing water with the baby” to support his claim that the MPs who supported the approval should be spoken to, not muzzled.

During his three-day campaign in the area, he made the call at the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region.

He said that a great deal of voting procedures in Parliament are anticipated that will require the participation of the MPs who voted to confirm the new ministers of this administration.

“On Friday, something happened in Parliament that we were all not happy about and I have seen some fake lists on social media, indicating that those MPs voted against the NDC.

“The list is alleging that they voted against NDC and it is a fake list. And so I am urging all NDC supporters to ignore it,” Mahama stated.

Prior to the secret vote, all of the nominees were approved despite the Minority in Parliament’s earlier declaration that it would not do so in accordance with a party leadership directive.

The NDC had decided not to approve the nominations, citing the nation’s economic difficulties as justification.

After many hours of voting, the House finally decided all ministerial nominees had been approved after the Appointments Committee was unable to recommend the nominees’ approval based on consensus.

KT Hammond was confirmed with 154 votes in his favor, 116 votes against his nomination, one rejected ballot, and one absentee vote.

The remaining candidates are Dr. Amin Adam, who received 152 yes votes, 117 no votes, one ballot that was rejected, and two abstentions. Asamoah Boateng received 147 votes for, 122 votes against, three abstentions, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong received 167 votes for, 98 votes against, four ballots that were rejected, and three abstentions.
