At the Accra Central Headquarters on March 27, 2023, some soldiers protecting a bullion van got into a fight with Ghana Police Service officers.
In a video that is currently trending on social media, members of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces are seen fighting in the open.
A journalist with Accra FM who was present during the altercation between the two state security agencies described how there was physical contact and gun cocking.
A police dispatch rider stopped a bullion van and a military escort on a busy street in the Accra business district on Monday, according to a different eyewitness, and that’s when the incident started.
Thomas Moro, a journalist who witnessed the incident, continued by describing how he saw police charge toward the soldiers who had just gotten out of a military pickup truck.
Thomas stated that the bullion van and military pick-up were moving at top speed in front of the police headquarters in an attempt to enter the CBD through the road in front of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service before the altercation between the police and the soldiers.
However, a police dispatch rider at the intersection blocked the military escort’s bullion van because it was traveling too fast or using that route.
The police dispatch rider’s display of power angered the military, which prompted the two state security agencies to demonstrate their own power.
