    Dr. Penelope Adinku, Ghana’s first female cardiothoracic surgeon, has been named the region’s top candidate for cardiothoracic surgery in 2022.

    The surgeon’s accomplishment was announced by Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on its Twitter account.

    “Congratulations Dr Penelope Adinku, Ghana’s first female Cardiothoracic Surgeon and a staff member of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, on being crowned the 2022 Best Candidate in Cardiothoracic Surgery in West Africa.”

    The hospital went on to express their delight and pride in Dr. Adinku’s accomplishments.

    At the moment, Dr. Penelope Adinku holds positions as a senior specialist at the Cardiothoracic Centre in Accra, Ghana, and a surgeon at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

    Adinku, a young female physician, made history when she became Ghana’s first female cardiothoracic surgeon.

    She joined the group of Ghanaian women who were pioneers in their respective fields, including the late Constance Ama Emefa Edjeani-Afenu, who rose to the rank of Brigadier/Major General in Ghana.
