Highife legend Daddy Lumba has opened the lid on why ‘Theresa’ meant so much to him and also talked about the love both for had for each other
A young Daddy Lumba met Theresa during his High school days and the two would fall in love with each other after the latter made the initial move by placing a love note in the books of a young Daddy Lumba
Recounting the assistance he was given by his lover, Daddy Lumba recounts “I wouldn’t have been this great if not for Theresa.. as humans, we often forget those who assisted us.. She is late, I wish she had lived long for me to appreciate her.. those who knew her can testify of her beauty and her good behavior. Nana Konadu was one of a kind.. she was my first love. In 1993, she was a business student and I was an Arts student. She appreciated the effort I put into my education”
According to Daddy Lumba, it was his lover who helped him organize a befitting burial for his mom by footing some of the bills and although they never got married, the two always shared an intimacy until her death in 2017 after a short illness.
The Highlife legend would go on by adding “Between 1983 and 1984, there was a serious famine but anytime Theresa came to visit, she brought bags of rice, sugar and sardines. She fed me back in school, I will never meet someone like her”
The singer revealed he is unable to perform ‘Theresa Abrebrese’ due to his emotional connection to the song and would try to do what he has never done before (performing the song on stage) in order to honor her.
