Former President John Dramani Mahama will be vetted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership for its flagbearership contest today.

The former President’s communications staff made this information public.

John Mahama recently advocated for government support of the nation’s strong political parties.

He claimed that public and state funding of strong political parties will significantly lower corruption in the nation.

He asserted that in order to adequately address all issues related to political party financing, the Public Funding of Political Parties Bill would need to be inclusive and bipartisan.

He claims that this is being done to stop the godfatherism that currently dominates Ghana’s political system.

A potential flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mahama, stated during a speech on March 22 at the UPSA auditorium in Accra that, “on government support for political funding, some have argued that the only funding that may be advanced to parties and cannot be concealed in secrecy is public funding. This refers to government giving financial resources or indirect assistance to political parties. In the absence of such support, and given the huge cost of political activities, wealthy party financiers may take over as political godfathers who determine electoral outcomes and all that follows it”.

In addition, he was launching his JM 2024 fundraising platform to aid in the funding of his upcoming general election campaign for president.
