Asamoah Gyan, a legend of Ghana, has urged fans to have patience with Inaki Williams after the striker’s sluggish start with the Black Stars.

Williams changed his nationality last year from Spain to Ghana, and he represented the West African country at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The Athletic Bilbao forward has played seven times for Ghana, but he has yet to score a goal.

The 28-year-old experienced another discouraging performance last Thursday when the Black Stars played Angola.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday night, Chris Hughton’s team defeated the Black Antelopes 1-0 in a qualifier for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Hughton made a successful debut as the coach of Ghana by separating the two teams with a goal in the 95th minute by substitute Antoine Semenyo.

Inaki Williams is being criticized too soon, according to Gyan, who maintains that more opportunities must be created for the striker to succeed.

He believes that once the forward from Spain scores his first goal while wearing a Black Stars jersey, he will go on to score many more.

“It’s very difficult to adjust to the African game, He has played in Europe all his life,” Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, said.

“We need to give him more opportunities, he is improving even though he hasn’t found his feet yet but I’m sure his first goal will open the floodgates and many more will follow. His first goal will boost his confidence level. Let’s keep supporting him.”

When the Black Stars play Angola once more on Monday, Hughton will look to make it two victories in as many games as he has been in charge as they attempt to seal qualification for the 2023 AFCON.
