The august house has confirmed Justices George Kingsley Koomson and Ernest Yao Gaewu as Supreme Court Justices.

His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo made the nomination in July 2022 to fill any anticipated vacancies at the supreme court.

The consensus report from the Appointments Committee, which was tasked with screening the nominees, was unanimously approved by the house.

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, announced the results and proclaimed the nominees approved following a vote in confidence on Friday.

The caucus argued that Justice Gaewu was unqualified to sit on the bench of the supreme court because he was running for parliament as a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Muntaka Mubarak, a former Minority Chief Whip and member of parliament for Asawase, suggested that his support would be “a bad reflection on the House. When you set a bad precedent, tomorrow is the yardstick for others to make this same demand.”

Minority insisted that Mr. George Koomson, who “just joined the Court of Appeal,” should have been replaced by other competent and qualified justices.
