According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), sanitary pads, which typically cost GHS 2.50 in December 2016, are now being sold for GHS 20 under the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

On Monday, March 20, 2023, Aseidu Nketia gave the “True State of the Nation Address,” in which he claimed that the Nana Addo-Bawumia-led government had orchestrated untold hardship for Ghanaians.

He claims that the state of the economy under Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia has deteriorated to the point of creating significant economic problems and a high cost of living.

According to him, a bag of cement that cost GH 27 in December 2016 is now going for an astounding GH 90.

He said: “Also, a bag of cement which sold for GH¢27 in December 2016 is today selling at a staggering GH¢90 and last, but not least, a sanitary pad which used to sell for an average GH¢2.50 in December 2016 is today selling for GH¢20.”

“When everything is said and done, this is the true State of the Nation. This is what we feel when we go to the market. This is what we feel in our pockets,” he noted.

Nketia, also known as General Mosquito, argued that despite having access to a wealth of resources, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’sadministrationhas failed.

He also charged the NPP with misleading Ghanaians into believing that a portion of the money the government borrowed was used to build roads.

Only 1.6 percent of the total GH820 billion spent on road construction in the nation, he continued.
