Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, a comedian from Ghana known professionally as Funny Face, has opened up about his early struggles.
The comedic actor made an appearance on The Day Show with Berla Mundi on Sunday to talk about his comeback to the spotlight after battling his mental health and to share his road to recovery.
Funny face admitted during the program that he had traveled a considerable distance for just one minute of humor on Tema-based Adom Fm.
“I worked my way up. I used to walk from Circle to Tema just to go an crack a minute joke on Adom FM. People know about it,” he said.
Contrary to perceptions that fame and prestige found him in the beginning of his career, the SwagOn-Papa claims that he had to earn them and that the walk to Adom FM was one of them.
“I used two and half hours to go to Tema. I would jog to Tema. I had to suffer to gain fame. I had to go to Toli masters in 2006, Chorkor trotro in 2008, Hottest Host on TV3 with my red and stripped suit,” he recounted.
He continued by saying that after thinking back on his struggles and messing it up, he had to take a step back and restructure his life, which is why he had recovered.
“Going through all this and then messing it up when I had a good thing. I realized I wasn’t listening so it hit me and when I listened, look at me now,” he added.

In the past, Funny Face allegedly threatened to harm some people on social media, struggled with his mental health, and separated from his twin daughters.
He was referred to a psychiatrist in February 2021 by the Kaneshie High Court due to his erratic behavior. Later, he was admitted to a mental health facility for treatment.
