On March 20, 2023, Parliament paid off about GH8 million of the GH13 million it owed the Electricity Company of Ghana in order to prevent disconnecting.

When the revenue mobilization taskforce from ECG stormed Ghana’s legislative house with the intention of cutting it off from the country’s power grid, a partial payment was made.

This exercise is a part of the power distributor’s effort to recoup over GH5 billion in debt accrued by private and public institutions since August 2022 for non-payment.

The exercise started today, March 20, 2023, after ECG announced that its main offices would close, save for the customer support divisions, for a one-month exercise.

The company will use the entire ECG staff, from senior management to junior officers, to recover all outstanding debts.
