Chief Moomen, a gifted Ghanaian poet and playwright has indicated he may soon bow out of the poetry space.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s entertainment Twitter spaces conversation, Chief Moomen noted that his interest in poetry has waned and isn’t as thrilled with new challenges as was the case in the past “These days I am not as thrilled when I get [poetry] gigs as I used to probably a couple of years ago”

He would continue by indicating he was looking forward to retirement as he wants to take time off to focus more on his personal preferences as he had focused a lot on the commercial content in the past “I’m actually looking forward to retiring because I also realise that I have spent a lot of time doing commercial poetry that I haven’t really taken time off to write the things I really want to write”

Chief Moomen would continue by questioning the feasibility on living off Poetry even after retirement and has referenced his experience as to why he thinks it is not possible to live off poetry when one eventually retires “Can you practice as a poet, as a career full-time, and that is what you do, that is what you survive on completely until your retirement? From my experience, I don’t think so and I don’t necessarily think it should be so”

Chief Moomen is one of the famed names and faces amongst lovers of poetry as his gift with words has sent him ashore where he has won admiration for his works and this news of early retirement would definitely come as a bad one to lovers of his craft
