Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the party has a lot of issues with the proposed C.I. by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Although the EC claims there is nothing wrong with it and that not much has changed from the current CI, in his opinion, there are still many difficulties.

“For someone who is a practitioner, that person will see what is wrong with the C.I unlike someone who is not a practitioner; it is just like the bikinis our ladies wear.

“It looks very small but it covers most essential parts and so you will think there is nothing wrong. But I believe the devil is always in the detail,” he told Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Thursday.

The EC has stated in the proposed C. I that the guarantor system will no longer be utilized for voter registration in Ghana due to a number of issues that have a negative impact on the quality of the electoral register.

The Ghana card will also be the only document necessary for voter registration once it has been approved.

But according to Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the decision to exclude alternative forms of identification from the voter registration process won’t help the election management body overcome its problems in maintaining the accuracy of the electoral roll.
