The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in particular, has come under fire from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for questioning and criticizing the gold-for-oil policy.
The Veep claims that those who questioned the gold-for-oil policy are now bleeding because it is effective and Ghanaians are already noticing the results.
“There are people who are very disappointed that it is working, but bleeding is allowed. They have an impossibility mindset, and they can keep to it. For us all, things are possible by the grace of God,” on March 15, Dr. Bawumia made a statement at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited’s (BOST) commissioning of its new Accra headquarters.
Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to expect cheaper fuel as part of the gold-for-oil policy and to maintain their optimism.

“There is more to come, this is the third month of operation of the policy. Some people said it will not work, and Ghana doesn’t have enough gold. How can you say that? We have been mining this gold for 200 years, and they keep taking it out, and it cannot work for us? It doesn’t make sense,” Dr. Bawumia noted.
He added that the government would use this policy to lessen pressure on the cedi, the country’s currency.
“With dedication and the right focus, we will deliver the mandate Ghanaians have entrusted in our care,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
At this time, the average cost of gasoline and diesel is $12.95 and $13.49.
About 100,000 metric tons of fuel have so far been imported into the nation under the government’s Gold for Oil policy, which was announced in an effort to help the cedi and bring in cheaper fuel.
