Despite winning three Champions League championships in a row at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has hilariously insisted that he will always be a failure there because his team was once rejected by his idol Julia Roberts.
The manager was upbeat throughout the bizarre and entertaining press conference on Tuesday, which followed his City team’s 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig to advance directly into the Champions League quarterfinals.

Roberts, along with NBA legend Michael Jordan and golf legend Tiger Woods, is one of Guardiola’s three idols. He later claimed he will never succeed at City because Roberts chose to visit Old Trafford rather than the Etihad when she visited England in 2016.
“I am a failure in the Champions League, If win the Champions League three times in a row I will be a failure. I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols,” Pep Guardiola lamented.

‘Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?
‘And she went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us. That’s why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us.
‘Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had.’
In November 2016, the American actress went to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.
On a discouraging afternoon for the home team, Jose Mourinho, who that season led the Red Devils to the Europa League and the EFL Cup, was dismissed. After Diafra Sakho’s goal for the guests in the second minute, Zlatan Ibrahimovic restored parity for United.
Roberts, her three children, and her cinematographer husband Daniel Moder, who are rumored to be Manchester United supporters, attended the Premier League match.
After the game, she and her family went onto the field to meet Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney, his wife Coleen, and former United midfielder Michael Carrick, who is currently vying for promotion as Middlesbrough manager.
Following this, Manchester United have taken to their official Twitter page to remind tweeps when Julia Roberts visited Old Trafford with her family.
