In a statement on Friday, March 10, the Police administration claims that a persistent intelligence-led operation has identified key suspects in the murder of Sheriff Imoro, a soldier at Ashaiman.

The murder of a young soldier in Ashaiman about a week ago caused unrest all over the nation.

The letter reads, “The Police after a week of sustained intelligence-led operation have arrested the key suspects involved in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, the soldier who was found dead at Taifa Ashiaman on 4th March 2023,”

His passing stirred up strong feelings and infuriated the military, which is why, early on March 7, some military personnel invaded Ashaiman and brutalized some locals while looking for his killers.

During the military invasion, some locals were detained and questioned.

Since then, many people have criticized the military’s action and called it inhumane.

The local member of parliament expressed his resentment for the behavior of the military personnel, despite the fact that the killing of the young soldier was a cruel act.

“We cannot take the laws into our hands whether we are lawmakers or security agencies.”

The military’s action has also been denounced by Amnesty International Ghana.

“Amnesty International Ghana is against all forms of violence and human rights abuses and condemns the violence meted out by the military on civilians. The military is to take a step back and allow the Ghana Police Service to conduct thorough investigations into the unfortunate killing of the soldier,”

The Ghana Armed Forces contend that the operation was not carried out in retaliation but rather as part of a manhunt for some criminals.

“the military operation, which was sanctioned by the Military High Command, was NOT to avenge the killing of the soldier but rather to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.”

According to them, the “swoop” resulted in the arrest of about 184 suspects, ranging in age from 21 to 47. They have since turned the suspects over to the military police, who will then send them to the Ghana Police Service for screening and further action.
