Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) representative for North Tongu, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for keeping silent about recent military atrocities in Ashaiman.

As the Commander in Chief, he declared it odd that the President has yet to make a statement about the incident.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa argued during a discussion of President Akufo-Addo’sStateof the Nation Address that the President ought to have expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased officer and the innocent people who were brutalized by the military.

“As Commander in Chief of the GAF, he should have first of all commiserated with the family and the GAF over the loss of the solider. But the President did not say a word. He didn’t think that he should condemn the brutality and assure that there will be a committee to probe the killing and the high-handedness meted out to the residents, and he is the Commander in Chief of the GAF?”

Many believe that the President, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, will make a public statement on the matter.

Amnesty International, a non-governmental organization that promotes human rights, asserts that the President had a chance to address the matter during his state of the nation address but chose not to do so.

The military has been advised by the former president John Dramani Mahama to refrain from executing extrajudicial justice against them, adding that many residents and employees of Ashaiman are innocent of this heinous crime.

Following the death of a soldier in the area, some military personnel moved to attack residents of Ashaiman on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, yesterday, March 9, Thursday, the slain young soldier was buried.

Several soldiers attended the burial of their deceased 21-year-old coworker at the cemetery.

On March 4, Imoro Sherrif was brutally murdered.

He was discovered dead in a pool of blood close to the Amania Hotel in Ashaiman, where he is thought to have been stabbed.
