An unofficial curfew was imposed on the Ashaiman neighborhood this morning, March 7, 2023, after some military personnel stormed the neighborhood in response to the alleged murder of one of their colleagues.

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that unidentified assailants had murdered a uniformed soldier in Ashaiman. A group of soldiers invaded the neighborhood early on Tuesday morning while it was pouring rain in order to exact revenge on civilians.

The military was occasionally seen beating up civilians in social media videos that went viral.

Another video showed Ashaiman’s streets in complete silence, with many people hiding in their rooms out of fear of the soldiers.

In the meantime, some Ghanaians have responded to the military invasion of Ashaiman on social media.

While some people decried the soldiers’ treatment of the civilians, others supported their use of such tactics to catch the murderers.
