At the Ho parade on March 6, 2023, the rich “voodoo” heritage of the Volta people was on display.
That is how the crocodile that greeted President Akufo-Addo at the parade materialized out of thin air.
The crocodile, in accordance with regional folklore, was a component of the Zagbetor, a rotating raffia.
Without using its feet, the raffia-made Zagbetor could rotate and move from one location to another. Its feet were totally undetectable.

This was done to demonstrate the deity’s spiritual and magical power as well as their ability to move around without legs.
The Zagbetor was performing gymnastics and rotating during the parade when a crocodile appeared out of nowhere, walked right up to the president, and bowed in submission to a superior being.
The crocodile’s ability to follow instructions from humans and complete the task flawlessly while under the influence of supernatural power attracted the attention of many people.
Many people think the Volta region’s residents highly value their culture, which is why they graciously and ostentatiously displayed it during the parade.
