After it was dedicated on Friday, March 3, Veep Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia handed the rebuilt Kumasi Central Mosque over to the mosque’s committee.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and a host of other distinguished dignitaries, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, regional Imams, Zongo Chiefs, as well as leading Muslim and Christian clerics, attended the commissioning ceremony amid the commotion.

The vice president’s remarkable act was recognized and praised by the Muslim community in the Ashanti region.

Vice President Bawumia gave a speech during the ceremony in which he said he started the project “to the glory of Allah” and thanked God for giving him the strength and determination to finish it by himself.

“I am grateful to the Almighty Allah for giving me the vision, guidance, and commitment to undertake this massive project. I was touched by the Almighty Allah when I visited the mosque in 2020 and realized that it needed urgent attention.”

Dr. Bawumia stated that the Kumasi Central Mosque, one of the nation’s oldest mosques, represents the vision of “our forefathers,” and he expressed his joy at the mosque’s transformation into a modern structure befitting Kumasi’s status as a renowned city.

In time for Jummah prayers, the Vice President and the Asantehene formally dedicated the mosque.

Soon after the mosque’s doors opened to the public, all 7,000 seats were filled, and several people stayed outside to watch the soul moment.
