National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for parliament John Dumelo has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to postpone this year’s Independence Day festivities.

He claimed that the March 6 celebrations, which take place in all of the regional capitals, cannot currently be supported by the Ghanaian economy.

The candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency wrote in a social media post: “Greetings @NAkufoAddo, respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual ‘fellow Ghanaians’ broadcast on tv. This will save us millions of cedis. Thanks so much”.

Thousands of people from all over the nation and the world would attend the celebration, which would have the theme “Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose,” in its honor.

The main ceremony will take place in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, as part of the national and regional events planned to commemorate the day.
