Difficult getting artists to perform for free – Baba Sadiq

Entertainment Mogul and businessman, Abdullai Abu Sadiq also known as Baba Sadiq has disclosed getting artists to perform for free at events is very difficult.

Baba Sadiq in an interview with Joy Entertainment asserted that some due to the non-commercial nature of certain events, artists billed to perform come to an agreement with the event organizers on monetary terms. According to the Entertainment mogul “It is very difficult getting an artiste to perform for free unless you have the relationship, first and for most, and as I said, it depends on the situation”

Baba Sadiq who is also a co-founder of 3Music Awards would put in a word of advice for some of these artists as he believes they should look beyond the immediate gratifications and take into consideration what these platforms could mean to their music careers and would also mention how several artists came to his doorstep following Black Sherif’s much-talked about ‘Rain’ performance seeking for similar creative opportunities.

He, however, noted that the agenda of Ghana’s music industry has always been about enabling artists and not event organizers, a situation he believes does not augur well for the entertainment ecosystem.

Baba Sadiq would also note the nature of the Ghanaian music industry as not helping the general entertainment ecosystem as he believes it gives the artists more power than the event organizers and this to him does not auger well for the growth of the industry “The market has broken. The sponsorship market has crashed. Nobody is getting sponsorship from the sponsorship market anymore. The investment to produce these shows is not even happening anymore. These talents when they produce their shows are running at losses”
